Forest, reliability and trust
Kent Larsson is a timber buyer and is responsible for buying forestry raw materials.
“The most important aspect of my job is maintaining good contacts with the landowners. A deal is based on trust and satisfying all parties,” Kent says.
For Kent, the forest is a part of life. He has worked as a timber buyer for some 10 years, measured timber in Tärendö, worked at the sawmill in Teurajärvi and has also worked with his hands as a lumberjack.
“I have worked in the forestry industry ever since I left upper secondary school,” he says.
The whole gives reliability
He likes his work and the contact with the suppliers.
“It is free and varied. Working for a small sawmill means you look after all contacts with landowners, checking records, write treatment area instructions, felling plans, control the felling and transports. This gives a good grasp of things, which benefits the customers thanks to the extra reliability.”
“Moreover, I have close contact with the timber sellers at the sawmill, so I know which assortment is in demand.”
Why should one sell one’s forest to Krekula & Lauri Såg?
“Many people want to sell to Krekula & Lauri Såg because it is a local sawmill that they want to safeguard, and it is excellent. Then, the price is crucial. The proximity to the sawmill means the net income is good for the customer, thanks to the shorter transports.”
“Then, it makes a difference to know that, at the end of the day, the timber products will be made into good products by those who buy timber from Krekula & Lauri Såg and process it.”
What type of timber do you prefer buying?
“It is well-grown and well-managed forest that makes good timber. A thinner first thinning is usually not as interesting. Then, the assortment needed is also dependent on the sawmill’s customers who buy the timber.”
What are your tips for obtaining a good forest?
“Care for the forest. Make sure you work with silviculture, clear and thin at the right time, and make sure rejuvenation takes place.
A good strategy is to visit your forest regularly and to prepare a forestry plan.” Advice can also be obtained from Kent.
Many of their customers return regularly.
“We want to be close to the forest owners and to build good relations. You should feel confident when you sell your forest to Krekula & Lauri Såg.
